Choose What Counts as a Country

Country Count sets the list of places your visited total is measured against, such as the UN countries or all places. Change it in Settings → Tracking → Country Count.

What it changes

The list defines the total on the Dashboard's Countries card (a count out of the list's size), the Countries and Continents sheets, share cards, and widgets. When the list includes territories, the card is labeled Places instead of Countries. It does not change your trips or trackers, and the map still highlights every place you visited.

Pick a list

  1. Open Settings → Tracking → Country Count.
  2. Tap Counting Mode. Its value shows the current list, such as 195 Countries, All Places, or a number for your own list.
  3. Choose Add UN Countries for the UN member states plus Vatican City and Palestine as observers. Choose Add All Places to include overseas territories and dependencies. A preset row reads Remove UN Countries while that list is already selected. Or tick individual places, using Search countries… to find them.
  4. Tap Done. The change is saved when the picker closes.

You can also open the same picker by tapping of N at the top of the Countries sheet on the Dashboard. The list cannot be empty: Done is unavailable until at least one place is selected.

A list you build yourself is not a share of the world, so the Countries sheet drops its "% of the world" wording for it.

Transcontinental countries

Below Counting Mode, the Transcontinental Countries section lists a few countries that sit on two continents, Egypt among them. For each, choose one continent or Both. With Both, the country counts toward each continent, in the Continents total as well.

Label UN members

Turn on Settings → Appearance → Show UN labels to mark United Nations members and observers in country pickers, and in the Dashboard's Places list when it shows all places.

If the total looks different from the map

The map highlights every place you visited, while the total counts only places in your list. Territories are the usual difference. Choose Add All Places to count them.
