How AtlasDays Counts Travel Days
By default, AtlasDays counts each calendar day from a trip's arrival date through its departure date, both included. A tracker can instead count nights or days away.
Arrival and departure days are inclusive
A trip from June 1 through June 3 contributes three days: June 1, June 2, and June 3. A same-day trip contributes one day.
Trackers can count differently
In a tracker's Limit setting, Days counts arrival and departure days in full. Nights counts the nights between arrival and departure, so June 1 through June 3 is two nights. Away counts the days that no stay in the tracker's places touches. Away counting includes days with no trip at all, and it does not treat Transit or Year Only trips as stays. Overlapping days are deduplicated
When multiple qualifying trips cover the same calendar day inside a tracker's country set, that tracker counts the day once. Overlaps stay flagged in the Timeline so you can decide whether the records need correction; Resolve Overlapping Trips shows how.
Open-ended trips use today
A trip marked Open-ended that has started is ongoing. AtlasDays uses today as its effective end date, so its total can increase each day until you add the departure date. A trip that starts in the future does not enter the current total.
Year Only trips do not create numeric days
A Year Only trip preserves travel history without inventing dates. It marks a place as visited, but contributes nothing to numeric day totals or rolling-window calculations. How Trip Dates Work covers when to use it.
Transit contributes zero days
Use Transit when you did not enter the country, such as an airside connection. The record stays in your history but contributes zero days and does not mark the country as visited.
Home Country has a specific role
Your Home Country setting decides which days the Days Abroad count treats as abroad. It does not remove trips from a country tracker or change how a trip's dates are counted.
AtlasDays is a record-keeping tool. A tracker counts the dates you entered. Official visa, tax, and residency rules decide which days legally qualify. The Travel Rule Library explains the common rules in plain language.
If a total differs from your manual count
Compare the tracker's places, window, and counting unit (Days, Nights, or Away), then check for an open-ended trip, a Transit record, a Year Only trip, or an overlap. Count the arrival and departure dates before comparing again.
